Creating job opportunities through restoration projects, bolstering local economies and livelihoods in affected regions.

Overview

The intervention activities of the GGW initiative have been providing meaningful employment for the people around and within the corridor. Particularly the projects and programmes of the initiative have created enhanced livelihood options with income generated activities. Examples of include among others are the following:

  • Engagement of 1,397 as Forest Guards to protect the various investments of the initiative across the frontline states. The Agency recruited these Guards from the communities to protect several afforestation investments from vandalization, theft and animal grazing. 
  • Empowerment of over 3,055 Women and Youth from among the affected communities in Agrobusiness (Livestock production- sheep and goats, Poultry, cattle fattening and seeds and seedlings production, Vegetable Market Gardening, Cassava processing and Marketing, etc)
  •  

Employment generated through value development of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) especially in Gum Arabic processing, Beekeeping, Balanites oil production, etc.

  • Empowerment of Women and Youth in Lokoja Federal Constituency, Kogi State by training workshop on sewing, grinding and riding motorcycles. Participants were provided with Sewing machines, Motorcycles, Grinding Machines and Water Pumping Machines to improve their Livelihoods.
